DAY 18 – PULTENEY, NY TO HOME

Date: Sunday, September 16, 2018

Location: Pultiney, NY

Departure Time: 9:15 am

Starting Mileage: DK

The morning came bringing with it another gorgeous day.

After breakfast we got packed to leave. Lee gave me the last of the cinnamon roll from Coudersport, delish. The time was far too short.

JODI & JEFF IN FRONT OF THE AMAZING HOME THEY BUILT

THE AMAIZING HOUSE

Jeff asked to film Bubba navigating Hillbilly Henge for the movie he’s working on so we obliged.

The grass was wet and the ground soft. Bubba needed some assistance to move and keep moving.

Saying farewell wasn’t easy, but there were many miles to cover before dark. We began our decent off the hill.

RT 54 wound its’ way through Hammondsport before taking us to Bath where Bubba was directed up the RT 86 E onramp. When the exit for RT 88 E appeared we took it.

PUFF THE MAGIC DRAGON

Exit 7 had signs for a Sunoco station. As if on cue reserve was required just as the exit was too close to safely take. Within minutes Exit 8 appeared also promising Sunoco.

Before fueling up I checked the right side of the building, locating an accessible receptacle behind the ice freezer.

Once filled, Bubba was driven around the building and strategically parked. The charger read 72%.

Lee suggested we continue to Oneonta for lunch. There was no available parking on Main Street so I circled around the block spotting a dirt bike parked behind a business. After parking the rig I walked across the street and entered the open door by the bike.

Jennifer was super friendly and let us plug in while we ate lunch at Simply Tai. The food was exceptional.

Back on board by 2:00 pm, RT 23 E was taken from Oneonta to Great Barrington, MA. A lot of it was posted at 55 mph so we made decent time.

Signs for the Rip Van Winkle bridge appeared. We had reached the Hudson River!

Just past the Taconic Parkway we hit a cloudburst, the first rain of the entire trip. My pants got soaked, but I didn’t care.

Finally the last state in our journey came into view.

In Great Barrington we avoided the remainder of RT 23 due to all the twisties and elevation changes it contains. Instead, we took RT’s 7 and 102 into Lee to pick up RT 20 E, a much milder route. We were only a few towns away now.

On the entire trip we never saw another sidecar rig on the road. Driving through Beckett a Harley rig passed us heading West. Go figure.

FINALLY HOME!!

After unloading our stuff and putting things away I gave Bubba a good soapy bath and put him in the garage.

This trip was brutally wonderful. We have so much to be thankful for in spite of the hardships. So many great memories, so many great people.

Without Lee’s partnership I’m certain the outcome would not have been a success. She put in so many hours poring over maps and her phone to plan our route, guiding me on the fly, finding shortcuts, getting us places to stay, calling for parts, going after parts, making sure we had plenty of water and snacks, locating restaurants, taking most of the pictures you’ve seen, encouraging me when I was discouraged, always asking what she could do to help. The list goes on.

Thank you to those of you who posted words of encouragement. They were cherished.

Lastly we thank our Heavenly Father for upholding, protecting and blessing us. So many prayers were answered over the miles. His creation awed us and His hand of mercy guided us. Praise be to Him!
